LEJAY Laurence

Laurence Lejay is Director of Research at INRAE Montpellier, within the Montpellier Institute of Plant Sciences (IPSiM). Specialist in nitrogen nutrition, she has been developing a research programme for over twenty years dedicated to understanding the mechanisms that regulate nitrate transport by roots according to the carbon and nitrogen status of the plant. After obtaining a PhD in plant biology from the Institut Agro Montpellier in 1999, she completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at New York University (NYU) before joining INRAE in 2003. Thanks to a resolutely integrative approach, she contributes significantly to advancing knowledge on plant nitrogen nutrition, a key issue in reducing the use of nitrogen fertilisers and promoting the selection of crop species that are more resilient to environmental constraints linked to climate change.
